It’s claimed the entire community in Tulla will benefit from a €900,000 grant to develop a new performance space there.

The government has allocated the funding for the development of a multi-functional performance auditorium at the Cnoc na Gaoithe Cultural Centre.

It will form part of a €1.2 million regeneration project at the former Convent of Mercy building in Tulla, where the Cultural Centre is now housed.

Chairperson of the Cnoc na Gaoithe Development Committee Breda McNamara says it’ll allow them to meet the demands of the local community.

“We are so delighted and grateful today with the fantastic news that the Department of Rural & Community Affairs have adjudicated our project to be worthy of support.

This grant of €900,000 will complete the restoration of all buildings and grounds of the former Convent of Mercy which was generously donated to Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in 2011.

We could not have achieved this without the ongoing support of Minister Pat Breen who has followed our progress every step of the way.

Huge thanks to Clare Co.Council Rural & Community Department, Rural Development Directorate staff who partnered us with this application, we could not have achieved this outcome without your support.

Míle buíochas.”
